Exercise and Nutrition Tips for Busy Parents: 7 Secrets

dp / 11 August 2012

Motus Training founder, Darren Putt, has been helping people lose weight and achieve their ideal body for almost 10 years.  Over that time, many fitness and diet fads have been and gone whilst Darren's methods have consistently produced amazing results.

In this special report, Darren shares with you 7 Surprising Secrets to the Body You Want

?Many of our clients at Motus Training are busy Mums and Dads who simply don't have hours each day to dedicate to their health and fitness.  They, like you, want to know the easiest ways to get the best results with the minimum of effort and in the quickest possible time. This is what inspired me to put together this special report listing 7 Surprising Secrets to the Body You Want.  They are not magic but they are easy to implement and will result in the biggest returns for the least effort and allow you to the make the most of the time you dedicate to exercise?.

1)                  Resistance Training beats Cardio

If you are going to exercise, you may as well get as much out of it as possible.  A well-designed resistance training programme will leave your metabolism elevated for 36-48 hours after each session.  Even the effects of the most vigorous cardio workout will only last 6-8 hours.  Fat is burnt in muscle cells, resistance training maintains and improves muscle tone allowing your body to burn fat throughout the day.  And, ladies, don't worry, you won?t bulk up!

2)                  Fish Oil Supplements

We would all like a magic pill for weight loss and, for now, this is as close as it gets.  Fish oils have been shown to switch on a gene that tells the body to burn fat whilst switching off a gene that tells the body to store fat!  Fish oils have also been proven to offer protection from nearly all major diseases and improve the condition of hair, skin and help inflammatory conditions such as asthma, eczema and psoriasis.

3)                  Protein Based Breakfast

A protein-based meal is the best way to start the day.  This will encourage your body to burn fat throughout the day, leave you feeling fuller for longer and more mentally alert than a carbohydrate based breakfast.  Cereal is not good for you, a bowl of cereal can have more sugar in it than a slice of cake - and I hope you wouldn't eat that for breakfast!

4)                  Limit Fruit and Fruit Juice

Yes, fruits do contain vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants, but fructose (fruit sugar) is difficult for the body to utilise and can inhibit and stall fat-loss.  A glass of fruit juice can contain as much sugar as a can of coke.

5)                  Exercise Harder not Longer

Intensity rules.  An intense 30 minute workout will be more effective than a moderate 1 hour session.  Sometimes it is difficult to find a spare hour in the day but all of us can find 30 minutes if we really want to change our body shape.  Seek expert advice to find out how to make the most of your 30 minute workout.

6)                  Don't Count Calories

100 calories of chicken does not have the same effect on your body as 100 calories of cereal or 100 calories of spinach.  The maths behind diets based on calorie counting and restriction are seriously flawed.

7)                  There is no 'perfect' Diet

What works for one person may not always work for the next person.  We are all individuals and need a different balance of nutrients to get the results we want.  We also have different lifestyles that mean we require an individualised solution.  Save yourself time and find out what is right for you.
