I recently published a short piece about goals. Not only how important it is to set them, but also that without an action plan to achieve them, they are merely wishes.
As most of you know, I'm the Associate Coach at Motus and I'm also a client of Darren's. We've been working together now for almost three years. One of the stories I used to tell myself regularly was that if I couldn't achieve something on my own, then it wasn't worth trying. I cheerfully ignored the evidence of my yo-yo dieting, about 40 years of it, because if I was ever going to get and stay thinner, then I HAD to do it by myself.
I remember sharing that little anecdote with him a few months after we'd started working together. I may even have slapped my forehead in a Homer Simpson-esque fashion.
There are some activities that are so important, either we've not accomplished them alone or not tried to accomplish them as we don't know where to start.
Who said you had to do it on your own??
Surely the point is to succeed, whatever it takes?
I came across a great quote in my Five Minute Journal recently, by Emily Kimbrough. She said:
'Remember, we all stumble, every one of us. That's why it's a comfort to go hand in hand.'
And if you are stumbling along the way, remember also that you are doing more than the person who isn't trying at all.
But rather than stumble, why not ask someone for help?
